Charleston Farmers’ Market Returns
The 2008 Charleston Farmers Market starts up again this weekend, on April 12, in Marion Square downtown as always. I can’t wait–one of the vendors there sells the most incredible blackberries I’ve ever had. They’re huge, 2 inches long sometimes, and perfectly sweet and juicy. The Lowcountry must have some awesome blackberry soil.
My other favorites are the small, blue or purple potatoes that one family always brings, in addition to eggs from what must be some very happy chickens. The family always has a photo album of their chickens and their mobile chicken coop, which gets moved around the farm so the chickens always have fresh ground beneath their feet (and beaks). It’s a lovely farm to support.
So, celebrate the start of spring with a trip downtown this Saturday, any time between 8 am and 2 pm. Oh yeah–and don’t forget your reusable bag!
