Charleston Summer Disc Golf Tour
This summer, starting on July 12 and ending August 16, the Charleston Dept. of Recreation is holding a disc golf tournament! So come on out – Frisbee enthusiasts, hackeysackers, natural athletes, general sports lovers, and people who think disc golf is a hippie sport but it looks fun anyway – and register by e-mailing Doyle Best at bestd@ci.charleston.sc.us, or call him at (843) 769-8281. A couple of Mixson teams could be pretty cool…
Here are the details, straignt from the Dept. of Recreation:
Registration:
Participants are encouraged to register in teams of two competitors. The registration fee is $75 per team. If registering as an individual, the fee is $40 per person, and individuals will be randomly paired. Registration forms and fees must be submitted by July 3rd. Late registrations will be accepted at the Captains’ Meeting (July 7). A late fee of $20 will be added to anyone who registers at this time. NO registrations will be accepted after July 7. Each registered participant will receive:
- A Charleston Summer Disc Golf Tour T-Shirt
- Entry in all six “Tour” tournaments, as well as all Skill Competitions
- A free cookout following the final tournament on the Tour
- Multiple chances to win discs, as well as many other door prizes
Tournament Schedule:
Each tournament will follow a different format and will be played at one of the three disc golf courses located throughout the Charleston area. The first five tournaments will follow a team-based format, with the final tournament being an individual tournament. The players from the winning team for each tournament will receive a T-shirt and a disc of their choice. The player, male and female, with the highest average finish for the Tour, will be named the Tour Champion, and will receive a T-shirt, a set of three discs (driver, midrange, and putter), and a trophy. Please note that teams are NOT required to participate in all tournaments to be eligible for consideration as the Tour Champion.
The tournament schedule is as follows:
July 12: Trophy Lakes (Captain’s Choice)
July 19: Park Circle (Best Disc)
July 26: West Ashley Park (Team Stableford)
August 2: Trophy Lakes (Alternate Shot)
August 9: Park Circle (Combined Score)
August 16: West Ashley Park (Individual)
Skill Competitions:
During each tournament, there will be three skill competitions. Each competition will be held on a designated hole. The competitions will be (a) longest drive, (b) longest putt, and (c) closest to the pin. The winner of each competition, male and female, will win a disc and will qualify to participate in the final skill competition, which will take place immediately following the final tournament. The winner of the final skill competition, male and female, will receive a T-shirt, a disc, and a trophy.
Captains’ Meeting
The Captains’ Meeting will be held on July 7, 2008 (location TBD). One member from every team MUST be present at the meeting. During the meeting, we will cover the rules for each tournament format and answer any questions that may arise. Following the meeting, there will be a drawing for door prizes (shirts, discs, etc.).

You made some good points there. I did a search on the topic and found most people will agree with your blog.
Lots of practice. It sounds like your problem might be positioning. For a driver or woods, you want to play the ball closer to your front foot. The more loft the club has, the more back in your stance you want to play it and hit down on it, versus hitting up on it like a driver. Try moving it around in your stance and see what happens.
