“I’On of the Upcountry”
A recent article from Charleston Mercury on growth in Greenville notes how a promising new development, Verdae, is being compared to I’On and other such outstanding communities. From the article:
“The I’on of the Upcountry: Verdae’s Promise and Potential
A project that has been highly publicized in the area is the development at Verdae. An 1,100-acre tract of prime real estate located in the city of Greenville, Verdae is designed to be home to nearly 10,000 residents and 15,000 employees. The development plan includes residential, parks and green spaces, professional and commercial offices, a town center for retail and dining, and much more. The overall concept for the project creates a community that fosters neighborly interaction and provides an authentic sense of place. Following the principles of “New Urbanism” encouraging walkability and sustainability, Verdae is being compared to the Seaside community in Seaside, Florida, and I’on Village in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.”
We are always happy to applaud good urban design and are proud to have I’On held as a continued model for great communities.
