New I’On History Display at East Cooper Montessori
Ever wondered who lived at I’On before its current incarnation? Check out a recently-installed display at the brand new EastCooper Montessori School that details I’On’s history and archeology from hundreds of years ago.
You’ll learn a thing or two about the area’s history, including the neighborhood’s namesake, Jacob Bond I’On, the Native Americans who called this land home, and even animals who lived here, as well. The case includes many artifacts, such as animal bones and pottery shards, uncovered during archaeological digs at the site, as well as images and information about I’On’s earliest residents.
Students can also learn information about the study of archaeology and the process of an archaeological dig. We heard the initial reaction from the students was, “Cool!”
Feel free to stop by the school, which is located at 188 Civitas Street to have a look, but first you will need to sign in at the front desk.
