Metamorphosis Recap
Well, Mixson’s art and music extravaganza came and went without a hitch (sort of…one of the venues’ gas lines went out, canceled their evening’s performance), and we’re ever-grateful for the press we got in the City Paper and the P and C Preview Section , as well as Thea Riley’s wonderful write-up on her blog at Perfectly Park Circle.
For those of you who weren’t able to make it, or maybe want to relive the night a little bit, here are some highlights:
Live grafitti was awesome, with lots of different artists who had very different styles.

EVO stayed packed all night, with great jazz music by Fred Wolk.
The short films were great–although it was a bit unnerving to go into the South of Broadway theater towards the end, when there was no one else in there, and find a bunch of black folding chairs facing a big screen showing four pairs of oversize lips moving in synchronicity. That in itself was an artistic experience. Here’s another scene from that great little theater:
The North Charleston Meeting Place was the edgiest of all the venues; heavy on skeletons and Tim Burton-esque sculpture, and with appropriately loud and pounding music, the room seemed to engulf you as you walked in. Everything was put together exceptionally well. In the outer room of the Meeting Place, there was beautiful pottery and jewelry for sale as well as paintings by even more area artists and schoolchildren. ![]()
Don’t know if you can see them in this picture, but the Mario (of Nintendo fame) paintings were surreal, colorful, and very well done.
Here’s Drew, our PR director, getting creative with the projector; the blank wall became a screen for another series of short films.![]()
Here’s one of the strolling musicians who made the walk part of the art walk so pleasant:![]()
And some very cool wearable art; this artist also had a couple of masks on display in the Meeting Place:![]()
