The Citistates Report - Managing Growth in the Lowcountry

Starting Sunday, September 9th and continuing for the next four Sundays, The Post and Courier is running a series of reports by the Citistates Group analyzing the threat and potential that growth presents the Lowcountry. The Citistates Group, led by nationally syndicated columnist Neal Peirce and urban affairs expert Curtis Johnson, conducted extensive interviews over the year to dissect the three-county Charleston metropolitan areas strengths and weaknesses in handling its growth challenges. I encourage you to check out this important report

I’On Group is co-sponsoring, along with the Chamber of Commerce and Coastal Conservation League, a luncheon at the Aquarium on Wednesday, September 19. Amy Liu, Deputy Director of the Brookings Institution Metropolitan Policy Program will be discussing the “Blueprint for America”, a policy initiative Brookings will be rolling out nationally in November. The “Blueprint” is a multi-year initiative to improve the nation’s economic competitiveness by working to invest and leverage the assets of our nation’s job centers, the Charleston metro area being one of them. Brookings also hopes to inform debate during the 2008 Presidential election season. Incidentally, my recent trip to Italy was to attend a retreat for this initiative.
