Transportation for America
If you haven’t had a chance to check out this coalition group, you should. Transportation for America  is a coalition of groups mobilized to ensure that transportation spending is directed toward programs and projects that will enhance mobility in the 21st century. They outline a series of investments in transit, maintenance and repair of dangerous existing infrastructure, incentives to retrofit suburban and urban areas, and transparency and accountability mechanisms that would revitalize our urban economic centers and improve livability.
Check out their recent analysis of the current state spending requests. It isn’t a pretty picture. SC’s project list is heavily skewed toward asphalt, with only 2.7% of its request targeted toward transit and intermodal projects. Add your voice to their growing coalition. It will take many voices to turn the tide.
